Rhodes

About Rhodes

Rhodes lies in the Aegean Sea, which is the fourth largest Greek island and 18 kilometres far from the Turkish coasts. Tourists can feel the affect of the latter walking in the Turkish quarter in Rhodes, the capital city among the several shops surrounded by the Mosque, Turkish Library and Bath of Mustafa Pasha. But the Acropolis, which was built on the top of the ancient town, and the massive fortress system, which guarded the old town of Rhodes through centuries are also unique view, even when they are floodlit in the evening.

Rhodes is the island of beautiful coasts, bays with huge cliffs, centuries-old attractions and delicious dishes. The party fans would like Faliraki due to its lively nightlife and the families will prefer the calmer and stiller Kolymbia.

Useful Tips

Biking around Rhodes may not sound the best idea, but one coast is a perfect spot for cyclists. Bike road on Afandou beach is just a few kilometers long (all along the coast), but a perfect spot for catching the sunset.

Colossus of Rhodes was not only one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, but also the symbol of the island. According to the legends, the statue was built from bronze in the 3rd century BC and was demolished by an earthquake. According to the plans, they would like to rebuild it to 150 meters high (which would make the new statue five times taller than the original).

Valley of the Butterflies is a scenic area of the island. From June to September, the entire valley is covered by butterflies, because of the strong scent of storax trees.
